Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT):
A Silent Killer

A patient's story written by Stacey Anderson
March, 2010

Hello. My name is Stacey Anderson. My husband passed away suddenly last September at the age of 42 due to DVT and PE. No signs or symtpoms and extremely fast. Most definatlely a "silent killer". After picking our son up from his frist middle school dance, my husband came home to watch a little television and fell asleep in the recliner. This was basically routine for him at night before actually getting up to come to bed. Only this particular night, that never happened. Our 4 year old and 11 year old sons found him the following morning still in the recliner, unresponsive and not breathing. Here one day, gone the next.

This of course has been a devastating loss for my family and me. Until his passing, I had never heard of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). I have started raising awareness for DVT locally as well as through emails and posts on Facebook. I have been recruiting all of our friends and family to do the same. This tremendous loss has left me a single mother to three precious boys and has left our three precious boys without their father.

I just wanted to share my story in hopes of raising awareness of this "silent killer" and to try to inform as many as possible. DVT is a preventable disease. If we had only known...
