Roger M. Lyons, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Dr. Lyons has served leadership roles with many professional societies, organizations, and institutions, including Bexar County Hospital District, South Texas Regional Blood Bank, Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, and Humana Hospital of San Antonio.
Currently, Dr. Lyons is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. In addition, he currently is the Director of the Therapeutic Plasma Exchange Program at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital and also the Director of the Peripheral Stem Cell Harvest Program for the Combined Bone Marrow Transplant Program. He initiated the South Texas leukemia and lymphoma consortium, which will bring new research programs to San Antonio. This is a combined project of Methodist Healthcare System and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He served for five years on the editorial board for the publication, BLOOD. He is an alternate on the Carrier Advisory Counsel for Medicare of Texas.
Dr. Lyons received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba. He completed his internship and residency in Medicine at Winnipeg General Hospital in Winnipeg Canada; Barnes and Wohl Hospital in St. Louis Missouri, and a fellowship in Hematology at the National Cancer Institute of Canada; Manitoba Cancer Research Foundation, Winnipeg; Clinical Fellow in Hematology, Washington Univ. School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO; Research Fellow in Hematology, Washington Univ. School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO.
Dr. Lyons has received the special honor of being listed repeatedly in the Best Doctors in America.
Dr. Lyons is actively involved in clinical research. His special interests in oncology are in hematologic malignancies, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. He is also interested in non-malignant hematological disorders such as thrombosis, coagulation, platelet, and vascular disorders. He has published over 23 articles and 13 abstracts in peer-reviewed journals, and has taken a leading role in 33 research studies.
Dr. Lyons receives research support from USOncology, Amgen, Pharmion and participates extensively in clinical research.
