Sarah A. Spinler, PharmD, FCCP, FAHA, FASHP, FCPP, AACC, BCPS (AQ Cardiology)
Dr. Spinler is Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacy Administration at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She is also an adjunct faculty member in the Cardiovascular Division in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Spinler received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She completed a pharmacy residency and research fellowship in cardiovascular critical care pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist with Added Qualifications in Cardiology. She serves as a preceptor to pharmacy students and performs clinical research at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, coronary intensive care unit. Dr. Spinler has authored more than 150 research articles, reviews, and book chapters and given more than 350 continuing education programs in the area of acute coronary syndrome, antiplatelets, and anticoagulants. In 2004, she was awarded the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Award for Sustained Contributions to the Literature of Pharmacy Practice. She currently serves on the editorial boards of several biomedical journals including Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Pharmacotherapy, American Journal of Managed Care, and Drugs. She is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and served as ACCP Regent from 2004 to 2007. She chaired the 2005-2010 Council of Experts, United States Pharmacopeia, Cardiovascular Expert Committee and served on USP’s Medicare Model Guidelines Committee. She was a member of the Steering Committee for the CRUSADE Registry, a national quality improvement initiative that was designed to increase the practice of evidence-based medicine for patients hospitalized with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and is currently a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR®) Practice Innovation and Clinical Excellence (PINNACLE RegistryTM) Steering Committee. PINNACLE is the first national ambulatory quality improvement registry. She also serves on the Executive Team of the ACC/Institute for Health Care Improvement (IH) Hospital to Home (H2H) National Quality Improvement whose goal is to reduce hospital readmissions for heart failure and myocardial infarction by 20% before the end of 2012. She also serves on the Steering Committee of the Interdisciplinary Working Group of the American Heart Association (AHA) Quality of Care and Outcomes Research (QCOR) Interdisciplinary and was awarded Fellow of AHA Cardiovascular Clinical Council and inaugural QCOR Fellow in 2009. In 2009, she was appointed to the National Quality Forum Consensus Standards for Patient Outcomes Cardiology Technical Advisory Panel. In 2010, she was named Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the largest professional association of hospital pharmacists and in 2011 became Associate of the American College of Cardiology.
